Sneak Peek: Urban Outfitters’ Terrain Re-Opens Styer

The much-anticipated grand re-opening of J. Franklin Styer Nurseries by its new owners, Urban Outfitters’ Terrain division, is getting ready to happen as this issue goes to press. Nursery Retailer was granted an early peek in late March, as final preparations were being made at the garden center, located about 30 minutes outside Philadelphia. The store is the first in Urban Outfitters’ 50-unit national rollout of "premier contemporary garden centers," targeted to aging Gen X and baby boomer consumers. The launch location will operate as Terrain at Styer’s, and this naming convention will hold as Terrain enters other markets. Look for a complete report, including a wide range of store photos, in the next issue of Nursery Retailer’s sister magazine, Garden Chic. To subscribe, visit BeGardenChic.com.

Plus! Urban Outfitters’ CEO, Dick Hayne, and Terrain’s Managing Director, John Kinsella, will speak at The Independent Garden Center Show about what’s in store for the new home and garden lifestyle concept during a special keynote interview with Nursery Retailer’s Publisher, Jeff Morey, Wednesday, August 20, 8:45 a.m. Diarmuid Gavin’s visionary speech on landscaping trends will follow.
